Photo Story: Late Night Blaze Lights up N.C. Sky

May 5, 2013

Just after 1:30 a.m. on April 28, the Nash County 911 Center was receiving calls for a dwelling fire at the 5300 block of Red Oak - Battleboro Road. Fire Departments from Red Oak, Battleboro and Salem were dispatched. Nash Fire Dispatch informed all companies that were responding that they had a working fire.

Red Oak Assistant Fire Chief Bob Brown was first on location and reported that he had a one-story unoccupied house with heavy fire showing from the rear.

The first in units from Red Oak lead off with two 1 3/4-inch lines plus a 2 1/2-inch hoseline for an exterior attack.

Battleboro Fire Company along with Salem Fire Company assisted Red Oak with firefighting efforts.

A water drop tank operation was established due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area.

Water was shuttled an half a mile away by Battleboro and Salem units.

Thirty fire fighters battled the blaze for almost two hours before the fire was brought under control.
