Firefighters worked for more than four hours to contain a five-alarm fire that spread through a large apartment building in North Bergen on Sept. 28.
Around 5 p.m. the North Hudson Regional Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at 9201 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
First units on scene reported heavy fire and a second alarm was transmitted.
As the fire grew, a third was struck and evacuation tones were sounded for crews to exit the building.
Three aerial streams went in operation to control the blaze and a fourth alarm was struck.
Throughout the blaze, the four aerial streams were facing major water issues because of small water mains in the area. A fifth alarm was eventually called.
The fire was placed under control at 9:30 p.m.
One firefighter was transported from the scene with rib injuries.
