Several fire departments assisted Florence firefighters as they battled a multiple-alarm fire in a large building on Sept. 26.
Florence crews were dispatched to the area of Dixie Highway and Richardson Road by Boone County Public Safety Communications Center for a vehicle on fire inside of a detached garage. The caller reported that the owner was attempting to extinguish the fire. While enroute, dispatch advised that the caller stated that the fire was out.
Firefighters arrived on scene of a large commercial auto garage with nothing showing.
Initial size-up found a fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle in the building with a light smoke condition. An attack was made on the fire, but crews were quickly evacuated following a violent, rapid fire event.
An additional alarm was stuck and the fire was fought defensively for the next several hours.
One worker and one firefighter were transported to the hospital from the scene.
