Flames devoured a vacant apartment building in Highland Park on Oct. 29.

A box alarm was dispatched to Geneva & 12th Street for a structure fire.

Highland Park Chief 3 found two structure fires within a block of that intersection. Engines 2 and 3 responded to Geneva and 12th Street while Ladder 1 was sent to Brighton and 12th Street for fire in a vacant apartment building.

Chief 3 requested a full box alarm from Detroit for the fire on Brighton, which involved a vacant four-story apartment building measuring 100 by 150 feet. Fire was on all floors and burning through the roof.

When Detroit Battalion Chief 8 arrived, he requested a second alarm from Detroit.

Firefighters surrounded the building with aerial devices for a defensive attack.
