Photo Story: Fire Engulfs Former Ohio Woolen Mill
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Jan. 21, the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a call for smoke coming from the old Longaberger Company corporate office.
Fire quickly spread throughout the century-old building. The Frazeysburg Volunteer Fire Department was immediately called for mutual aid. Â
Firefighters faced temperatures in the single digits as they worked the fire overnight. At least one hydrant was found to be frozen.
Once a woolen mill, the company had been used for manufacturing and then as corporate headquarters of the Longaberger Company. Â The building had sat vacant for a number of years, but a small wrought iron company had recently began using a portion of the building.
The fire was reported just hours before the five year anniversary of the multi-alarm fire which destroyed the village's grocery store. Since then, the DVFD has fought a string a fires of unknown origins. The cause of this current fire is still under investigation.
