Photo Story: Early Morning Fire Totals Kan. Home

Feb. 9, 2014
Nine units from Independence and Montgomery County fire departments responded.

At 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 30, the third shift of Independence Fire/EMS was alerted for a possible structure fire.

An police officer was on patrol in the area reported a fully involved one-story wood--frame dwelling within moments of dispatch. The lieutenant requested a second alarm while enroute bringing in off-duty personnel and the department chief.

Upon arrival it was determined that all occupants had evacuated the home and a water supply was established.

Due to freezing temperatures the water supply soon became inadequate.

Mutual aid was requested from Montgomery County Rural Fire who responded with a tender and vehicles to set up a water shuttle.

The house was a total loss.

A total of one quint, four engines, one Tender,  two ALS ambulances and two command vehicles responded 27 personnel.

Crews remained on scene until 9:00 a.m.
