Photo Story: Austrian Competition Breaks Cars into Pieces

The competition had Upper Austrian firefighters cut vehicles into pieces that were small enough to pass through a truck tire.

Twelve Upper Austrian volunteer fire brigades competed in a unique competition that tested firefighters and their equipment knowledge.

This is the second time the event was held, which combines training skills with team building skills across the volunteer ranks.

Each of the 12 brigades includes six firefighter, which are then broken into two three-person teams.

Firefighters use their extrication tools to dismantle vehicle into pieces that are small enough to fit through a truck tire. The teams switch out every six minutes.

The first place team completed the event in 64 minutes and the second team wrapped up in 69 minutes.
