Nov. 21--A woman was rescued Saturday from a zipline course after her trolley got caught on a tree branch and suddenly stopped about 75 yards from the take-off platform, injuring her.
Trained employees from Navitat Canopy Zipline Tours fred the 35-year-old woman from the branch and pulled her back to the platform, a process that took about 90 minutes, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Firefighters ziplined to her platform in order to treat her, which was done on the scene rather than taking her immediately to a hospital because of her injuries.
For three hours, firefighters transported the woman through the zipline course in a stokes litter basket before carrying her another 3/4 of a mile down a narrow mountain path. From there, an off-road vehicle drove her another two miles to an ambulance, which drove her to Kaiser Hospital in Fontana.
All other guests were safely evacuated by Navitat employees, according to fire department spokeswoman Tracey Martinez.
Martinez attributed the success of the rescue to firefighters training this spring with the Navitat Company for an event like this.
