N.H. Crews Save Woman from Water
GILFORD, N.H. --
Rescue crews had a close call at a popular swimming spot in Gilford on Saturday when they found a woman facedown in the water.
Firefighters in town are crediting fast action by lifeguards at Ellacoya State Park for saving the woman found in Lake Winnipesaukee.
With this weekend's hot weather, the Ellacoya beach was a very busy place.
Lifeguards had their work cut out for them, but they were still able to save the 38-year-old Barrington woman's life.
Firefighters said the victim was spotted floating facedown in the water Saturday afternoon. Two lifeguards pulled her from the water and immediately began CPR.
It wasn't clear how long she was under the water, but first-responders said the quick care she received made a big difference.
"The lifeguard and the off-duty lifeguards, plus the bystanders that were there, did an outstanding job to make our job a lot easier," said Gilford Fire Department Lt. Frank Latosek. "Without them, it would have been a lot harder call. It actually turned out to be a very good call for all involved."
State park personnel and witnesses said it appears the woman suffered a seizure while in the water, which may have been what caused her to go under.
Firefighters said she is expected to fully recover.
