MIAMI --

Flames shot high into the sky, and firefighters worried about a possible explosions as they fought to extinguish a massive propane fire that erupted in Miami Thursday night.

Just after 7 p.m., fire crews, who were already nearby fighting a warehouse blaze, saw a ferocious spike of flames slice 80 feet into the sky.

They instantly sprung into action, rushing over to the new fire.

At one point, the flames seemed to dwarf their longest ladders.

According to authorities, a truck was being filled up at an external propane tank along the Miami River. The driver drove away without unhooking the hose, causing a massive explosion at the 33,000-gallon tank.

Firefighters had to evacuate a 20-block wide area and shut down power to prevent another explosion.

It took 200 firefighters more than two hours to get the flames under control.

Hazmat crews kept the area closed down into the night to make sure there were no more explosions.
