Fla. Squad Handles Homemade Bombs
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. --
On Monday night, the bomb squad removed several homemade bombs from a home on Satellite Beach, after the Brevard County Sheriff's Office waited several hours to get a search warrant after emergency crews found four homemade bombs in a duplex on Wilson Avenue.
Emergency crews first responded to the home late Monday afternoon, after Glen Miller called 911 saying he was having chest pains. When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered the explosives inside Miller's home.
"It's a whole messed up situation, and we're kind of spooked," said Mike Sexton, one of Miller's neighbors.
Police evacuated 10 homes and turned people away from the area at road blocks.
"That's scary, you wonder what he was going to do, but probably hurt himself more than anything," said Terri Johnson, a neighbor of Miller's.
WFTV spoke to neighbors Monday night, who described Glen Miller as being known for his bizarre behavior. They said they've seen him talk to himself, the trees in his yard, and his fence. And they said that one month ago, they saw him hiding in a bush with a machete.
"The guy's a little nutso, everyone knew that, and that's why they would stay away from him," said Sexton.
Investigators said the devices they found in the home were not very powerful.
"It looks like something that could harm someone up close and personal if anything," said Lieutenant Bert Berrios, Satellite Beach Police Department.''
Miller will be charged for Monday's incident.
Miller has previously been arrested for drugs and carrying a concealed weapon.
