GENESEE, Wis. --
Two people were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon following a dramatic rescue at a Waukesha County farm.
Firefighters rescued the two workers after they became trapped following a fire in a privately owned corn grain bin in the Town of Genesee.
The two workers originally called 911 from outside of the silo before eventually becoming trapped.
"Upon our arrival, we found a grain storage container with soybeans on fire. We commenced on extinguishing operations. It's still under investigation how two parties re-entered the grain storage," said Chief Greg Jezak of the Wales Genesee Fire Department.
Jezak said his department needed the extra help to get the workers out, onto stretchers and securely placed on the two Flight for Life helicopters that were called to the scene.
"Right away, we threw an air tank down to the parties. So we started commencing some type of rescue operations to our level of training and then turned it over to the technical specialists from the city of Waukesha," Jezak said.
One person was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee and the other to Froedtert Hospital.
The Town of Genesee Fire Department would not release the victims' names, but neighbors told 12 News who the farmer was. And according to Froedtert, that farmer is being evaluated.
There's no word yet on the severity of the victim's injuries.
