Elderly Woman Found Dead in Indy Fire
INDIANAPOLIS --
A 94-year-old Indianapolis woman was found dead early Sunday after a fire in her apartment.
Firefighters were called to the Indiana Avenue Apartments at 825 Indiana Ave. just after 4:30 a.m. on reports of smoke coming from a third-floor unit, said Fire Captain Rita Reith.
They found a small fire in the bathroom of the apartment. As they were clearing the smoke, they found the body of Willa Mae Fossett. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said they believe something on Fossett's bed may have caught fire and that she tried to take it into the bathroom to extinguish the flames.
