ATLANTA --

A fire at the Baptist Towers senior apartments in Atlanta caused approximately 200 people to be evacuated Monday morning.

The fire started around 9:15 a.m. at the complex on Myrtle Drive.

Atlanta fire investigators said everyone was evacuated safely, although three people were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

A fire fighter was also transported for exertion, officials said.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to get the fire under control, investigators said. The blaze was contained to one unit, although some surrounding units did suffer smoke damage.

"We heard the alarms go off about 9:15, and on the fifth floor, you could see the flames shooting out those two windows about 40 feet," one resident said.

MARTA buses were called to the complex for the evacuees.
