Conn. School Evacuated During Blaze

NAUGATUCK, Conn. --  Students were evacuated from City Hill Middle School in Nautatuck amid a fire Thursday morning. The fire was reported in a custodial storage room at the building just after 9 a.m. Fire officials said the blaze, which was described as being small, was contained to the storage room. Fire officials said there was extensive water and smoke damage to the second floor because the sprinkler system activated.

Students were evacuated from City Hill Middle School in Nautatuck amid a fire Thursday morning.

The fire was reported in a custodial storage room at the building just after 9 a.m. Fire officials said the blaze, which was described as being small, was contained to the storage room.

Fire officials said there was extensive water and smoke damage to the second floor because the sprinkler system activated.

Fire officials said about 600 students were moved safely to the high school to wait out the day or until a parent could pick them up.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
