HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. --
Authorities in Westmoreland County said a man was killed when a mobile home he was preparing to move fell on him.
Officials said James Skovira, 48, of Acme, had been contracted to remove the single-wide home in the Hempfield Highlands mobile home park in Lincoln Heights.
High Park Fire Chief John Howell said the man was under the 1.5-ton mobile home trying to attach wheels to it when the jack he had used to prop it up slipped and he was pinned under the structure.
Deputy coroner Dennis Johns said the accident happened between 2:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities said the man's son found him shortly after 3:30 p.m. and fire rescuers used high-pressure air bags to lift the home off him.
"We called 911," said witness Raymond Keller. "They got here, probably took them about five minutes. And it took probably another five to 10 minutes for them to get him out from under the trailer."
Skovira was taken to Jeannette Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
