Atlanta
Atlanta firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at the Paideia School, a private school on Ponce de Leon Avenue, late Friday night. Fire Captain Bill May said the fire was intentionally set.
Some hay bails were set on fire that were on the porch. The fire spread from the hay to the attic, from there it traveled pretty much the distance of the building, said May.
The building, that burned, is called the Mother Goose building. High school students like senior Jake Ellwood attended classes in it.
Ive been going here for 12 years. My mothers worked here for 15 or 20 years. Her classroom was in the building that burned down, said Ellwood.
While firefighters battled the blaze, school staff, students and parents stood by and watched one of their beloved building burn.
This is just really sad you know. Im a senior here and Ive been going here since second grade. This is my second home, said senior Filipe De Sousa Sheppard.
Fire investigators are trying to find out who started the fire.
