At least three family members are hospitalized after an early morning house fire, News 5's John London reported.
Taylor Freeman, 7, was originally reported dead when firefighters pulled her from the Price Hill home, but rescue crews were able to revive her on the way to Children's Hospital. She's in critical condition.
Another child, 12-year-old Jessica Cain, is in serious condition.
Her grandfather, Robert Cain Sr., suffered smoke inhalation and is also in critical condition.
A neighbor smelled smoke coming from the house in the 1100 block of Seton Avenue, between Glenway and St. Lawrence avenues, around 4:30 a.m.
"I heard my brother screaming, and I ran down to find out what was going on," Robert Cain Jr. said. "The place was blazing. I was running around looking for ladders to get in and help them, but it wasn't sensible because the van was blocking the driveway."
Firefighters had to break through the roof to rescue the eight people inside, and officials told London that if not for working smoke detectors, some of the family members might have died.
Investigators said the blaze started on the fire floor, but the cause remains under investigation.
