June 30, 2005 -- Business at a federal building in lower Manhattan was disrupted yesterday morning when a white powder, later determined to be harmless, was discovered in the lobby.
Hundreds of people left the Jacob K. Javits Building in Federal Plaza voluntarily, and others were prevented from entering as authorities in hazardous-materials suits collected the substance, which police said turned out to be talcum powder. AP
