When a Grandview Road resident received a letter that leaked a powdery white substance last week, police officers and firefighters jumped into action to secure and decontaminate the area.
Deputy Robert Worland said the owner of the home had received the mail, and before realizing it had powder in it, took it to his office in Columbus, and his supervisor took it to a home in Bloomington.
The Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department, whose members have been trained in handling hazardous materials, have responded to a couple of incidents like this in the past, according to firefighter Sam Mathis. None of those occurrences involved dangerous materials.
