San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, along with County firefighters, rescued two people who fell into a ravine while hiking in the Running Springs area.
Sheriff's Dispatched received a call for a search and rescue about 2:30 p.m. Monday. The initial report stated that the victims had fallen about 200 feet.
Sheriff's Aviation was also dispatched to assist with the call, according to the sheriff's news release. A helicopter responded to the area and found the woman, who was about 100 feet down in a wooded area.
Velinda Schmid, 45, of Wilmington had injuries to her back, neck and hip, officials said.
A pilot flew the helicopter into the area and crew members lowered themselves down to gain access to Schmid and hoist her up.
While crews tended to Schmid, the second victim -- an unidentified man in his 60s -- was still unaccounted for, according to the news release.
A second helicopter was called in to look for the man and both ground and air crews continued their search into the night.
About 9 p.m., officials received reports of someone yelling for help in the City Creek area, according to the news release. A helicopter was dispatched to the location and crews used night vision and infrared to search for the man.
The victim was found and after directing ground personnel to his location he was able to walk out of the area.
