A man was rescued Thursday morning from a car in a pond at the Wexford Lakes Apartments on the Northwest Side.

The man was taken to Doctors West Hospital and was listed in critical condition. Columbus police said a call came in at 6:45 a.m. that a vehicle with a man inside was floating in the water at the apartment complex.

Columbus firefighter Bill Ehrgood said the car was under about 15 feet of water when dive team members arrived at the apartment complex. Divers found the man behind the wheel of a Chrysler sedan.

Ehrgood said the man was not breathing when divers brought him out of the water, but EMS workers worked to resuscitate him on the way to the hospital.

He said the man appeared to be in his 40s or 50s.
