An injured, dehydrated herring gull stuck behind a grate atop City Hall was rescued Wednesday by the Milwaukee Fire Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team.

"Millie" had suffered deep lacerations and abrasions to one of her hips and a wing, according to Wisconsin Humane Society spokeswoman Angela Speed.

The bird was being treated at the Society's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Speed said in a news release.

Photos posted to the society's Facebook page show paramedic Andrew Hargarten of HURT Team Rescue Company 1 rappelling down the roof of the nine-story structure to save the bird.

The rescue was used as a training exercise, Company 1 Lt. Steve Scherer said.
