Dec. 31--A Delaware County fire fighter was injured Sunday in a late blaze that destroyed a home in Colwyn Borough.
Fire departments in the southeast part of the county received a call about 6:30 p.m. for a twin house fire on the 200 block of Walnut Street, according to Chief Chris Caruso, of Darby Company #1.
A 24-year-old volunteer firefighter, who was using a hose inside the house, received two electric shocks, possible from live wires in the home. He was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and held overnight for observation. He has since been released and his name is not being released, Caruso said.
"He was very lucky and so were the guys with him," said Caruso. There were no other injuries, he said.
The fire was thought to have started in the kitchen area of one of the twins and spread to the second floor. No one was at home at the time. There was no audible noise from any smoke alarms when crews arrived, Caruso said. Residents in the other half of the twin had left the home by the time firefighters arrived.
The Red Cross helped both of the displaced families, Caruso said.
The fire was brought under control around 8:15 p.m. Its cause of the fire is still under investigation, Caruso said.
