Aug. 24--Two men were taken to an area hospital Friday evening after their plane went down at Bing Maloney Golf Course, near Sacramento Executive Airport.
Assistant Chief Kim Iannucci of the Sacramento Fire Department said emergency crews about 6:40 p.m. responded to the golf course at 6801 Freeport Blvd.
She said the small plane, a Piper PA-28, had taken off from the airport. Witnesses said they heard it sputter, then saw it turn and go into a wooded area on the course.
Assistant Chief Scott Williams, who was on the scene, said witnesses reported that the plane's engine had died and it appeared the pilot was attempting to return to the airport.
Witnesses helped the men out of the plane, and the two were walking around when firefighters arrived. The names of the men were not released. Both suffered injuries that were not life threatening, according to Sacramento Police Department officials.
Federal Aviation Administration online records show the plane is registered to Capitol Flying Inc. of Antelope.
A Level 2 hazmat incident was declared because fuel leaked from the plane.
