Oct. 02--FAIRFIELD -- Federal agents have joined local, state and regional investigators at a home where a large amount of hazardous materials have been found.

"A large amount of various chemicals" were found at the Bronson Road residence and are being identified, said Christopher Tracy, Fairfield's acting fire chief.

Local police and firefighters have been at the Bronson Road residence since Tuesday; also at the scene are agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and representatives of the Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team, a regional haz-mat team.

The state police and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also have been at the scene, Tracy said. In addition, an ambulance crew from American Medical Response is on hand, although it isn't clear if there are injuries.

A press briefing is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the police department, Tracy said.
