Nov. 18--Anne Arundel County firefighters rescued a 59-year-old man from a two-alarm house fire early Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded to the 400 block of Old Line Avenue at 2:42 a.m. and discovered flames coming from the rear of a ranch-style home with reports of a man trapped in the basement, fire officials said.
Firefighters immediately located the man and removed him from the home. He was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with serious non-life threatening injuries, fire officials said.
No other injuries were reported.
The owner of the home called 911 after being alerted by smoke alarms. Fire investigators have attributed the cause of the fire to unattended cooking.
Some 35 firefighters with assistance from Fort Meade, Prince George's and Howard county fire departments, brought the blaze under control in about an hour.
Five adults were displaced as a result of the fire and were assisted by the Red Cross. The blaze caused an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.
