No one was hurt when a tractor-trailer carrying thousands of eggs crashed into a ditch in Pleasant Township.

Nov. 23--A Hillandale Farms tractor-trailer transporting thousands of eggs crashed into a ditch on Hanover Road in Mount Pleasant Township early Thursday night.

Driver Michael Mowrer, 21, said he lost control of the tractor-trailer at 5 p.m. outside of 2424 Hanover Road when the wheel jerked to the right and the vehicle fell into the ditch. Mowrer said he was glad no one was injured.

The truck was carrying 5,400 dozen eggs and was determined to be "a total loss," Bonneauville Fire Chief Jerry Poland said.

"The whole load of eggs was destroyed," Poland said.

Hanover Road was blocked from Low Dutch Road to Granite Station Road until 11 p.m.

It took until 11 p.m. to get the tractor-trailer out of the ditch with a wrecker, Poland said.

PennDOT checked the roadway Friday morning and fixed a damaged guardrail, he added.

Mowrer had been working for Hillandale Farms for about a month and said he never had something like this happen before.
