Dec. 30--A 7-year-old girl was rescued about an hour after falling into a well Monday afternoon in Carroll County.
The incident happened on Ivey Road near Whitesburg, where the Carroll County Fire Department worked to free the child.
The well appeared to be 40 to 50 feet deep, but there was no water in it, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Lt. Clay Kierbow, the firefighter who was lowered into the well to get the girl, said she had fallen in an awkward position.
"It took ... a while to get her maneuvered around where we could get her out," he told Channel 2, "and once we got her up, (we) tied a rigging system to her and pulled her up and me right behind her."
The girl was alert, conscious and breathing, according to Carroll County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Brad Robinson.
She was transported to a hospital in Atlanta to be treated for cuts and contusions.
