A worker among several involved in food processing plant collapse texted his fiance saying he was hurt and trapped.
Several employees at International Nutrition were still unaccounted for as of 1:46 p.m., while another nine had been transported to area hospitals. One firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
There were 38 workers in the plant when the explosion and collapse occurred about 10 a.m., according to WOWT.
A mass casualty unit, operations and triage areas were established.
Rescue crews and firefighters were called to an explosion and building collapse at International Nutrition, near 77th & I Streets in Omaha.
Kari Cook told reporters her fiance, John Broderick, sent her a text message at 10:09 a.m. It read, "Major accident. I'm hurt and trapped. I love you." Cook said she has not heard from Broderick since receiving the text. He works on the second floor of the building as a supervisor.
Another woman at the scene, Ericka Alecio, said her father, Walter Alecia, her uncle, Jesus Navarret, and Eric Okamp were inside when the collapse happened.
