June 16--A boy from Chicago was electrocuted climbing on top of a train in a south suburban rail yard Sunday evening, authorities said.
The boy, whose age was not immediately released, was one of two juveniles who entered a Metra rail yard in University Park just after 7 p.m., Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said. He suffered a fatal electric shock while climbing on top of a parked train, Gillis said.
The boy was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Office of the Will County Cororner. The coroner's office did not immediately release his name or age.
A dispatcher for University Park's police and fire departments referred all questions to the fire department, and a firefighter who answered the department's main phone line declined to comment.
"At this time, the fire department has no statements to make," the firefighter said.
The rail yard is at the University Park station, at the end of the Metra Electric District line. Metra suspended train service to the station Sunday night and was using buses to shuttle passengers between the University Park and Matteson stations.
