Truck Slams into Texas Business; One Dead

Fort Worth crews used a fire truck to pull the pickup truck from the building to free one victim.

One person is dead and several injured after a pickup truck crashed into a Fort Worth business Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the Chevy Avalanche fled from the scene of a minor motor vehicle crash just a flew blocks away.

The pickup reached speeds of 80-100 mph before the driver lost control of the truck and it crashed into the store, according to Fort Worth police spokeswoman Tracey Knight.

There were six adults in the store the Star Food Mart on East Lancaster when the crash happened just after 1:30 p.m.

Engine 14 arrived and activated the technical rescue team as firefighters and Medstar crews assessed the patients.

Firefighters had to extricate several of the victims. A fire truck was used to pull the pickup from the building to free one person, Fort Worth fire spokesman Kyle Falkner said.

A woman was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Six, including a passenger in the pickup, suffered non-life threatening injuries. 

One person succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. 

Police said the driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.
