An Albuquerque firefighter's vehicle was broken into while the crew at Station 3 was out on calls as a thief took advantage of an empty fire house.
According to local television station KRQE, Firefighter Justin Spain's personal vehicle was the target and the thief made off with a 16-year collection of search and rescue gear. Spain told the station the gear was in his car because he hadn't yet moved it into the station. Lost in the theft was specialty gear for helicopter rescues, repelling, and climbing.
The television station said a lot of the equipment is marked AFD or Albuquerque Mountain Rescue. Spain is asking anyone who spots the gear to call the Albuquerque police.
