A 92-year-old man was rescued after falling nearly 60 feet down an embankment while hiking in Madera County, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was hiking on the Willow Creek Trail, near Road 274 in Madera County, down a steep canyon slope around 5 p.m. when he fell nearly 60 feet, said Madera County Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Ward.

Madera County Search and Rescue was called out and was able to rescue the man, who was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, Ward said. The man survived with only a broken arm.

Two other people were also rescued but were unharmed, Ward said. Road 274 was closed briefly as crews worked to rescue the three.
