Detroit Bus Crash Sends 18 Kids, Two Adults to the Hospital

The most seriously injured was the SUV driver who hit the back of the school bus. Injuries to the kids were minor.

April 13--Eighteen children and two adults were taken to a hospital this afternoon after a school bus crash on Detroit's west side. None of the kids were seriously injured, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Dexter and Boston at 4:11 p.m., said Deputy Detroit Fire Commissioner David Fornell. Another vehicle had rear-ended the school bus.

"The pediatrics that were transported (to Henry Ford hospital), there were no serious injuries, but they were taken as a precaution," Fornell said.

Fornell said the most seriously injured person was a man in his 70s, who was in the vehicle that hit the bus.

Details on his condition were not immediately available.

A spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department did not immediately return a message.

It's unclear which school the children on the bus attend.

The bus was not transporting students in Detroit Public School Community District, according to district spokeswoman Chrystal Wilson.
