MANCHESTER, NH—Firefighters rescued a 30-year-old man who got 60 feet up in a tree while retrieving a drone in Lafayette Park on Wednesday afternoon.
City firefighters were called at 12:32 p.m. to help the man, whose identity they did not release.
Rescuers said he told them that, with no prior climbing experience, he had borrowed a friend's climbing gear when his drone landed about 60 feet up in a tree near the center of the park.
District Fire Chief Mike Gamache said after the novice climbed up and freed the drone, he became stuck and couldn't get down.
Firefighters secured the man so he wouldn't fall, then used a 100-foot ladder to reach the man and get him to the ground.
The man refused medical attention at the scene.
He was fortunate, Gamache said. A fall from such a height can seriously injure or kill, he said.
