Firefighters from multiple departments rescued a worker with a timbering crew from a dense and remote area atop Youngstown Ridge in Ligonier Township after a falling tree broke his leg.

A logger had to be rescued by multiple fire departments Monday when he was injured by a falling tree in a remote area atop Youngstown Ridge in Ligonier Township.

Fire crews carried the unidentified man, a worker with a timbering crew from the Punxsutawney area, about 300 yards out of the remote wooded area along the 400 block of Youngstown Ridge Road, Darlington Volunteer Fire Chief Bob McDowell said. The accident occurred about 9:45 a.m.

“He was conscious and talking with the crews as he was carried out to the road, where the ambulance was waiting,” McDowell said. “It was so dense… you just couldn’t get back up in there.”

The man was transported to Excela Health Latrobe hospital for treatment.

“He did have a broken leg,” McDowell said.

In addition to Darlington, firefighters from Ligonier Hose Co. 1 and Youngstown also responded.
