CAL FIRE and San Luis Obispo City firefighters saved a rock climber who suffered severe injuries after she fell 30 feet from Bishop Peak on Labor Day.

Firefighters rescued an injured rock climber from Bishop Peak in San Luis Obispo on Monday morning after she sustained major injuries in a 30-foot fall, according to the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department.

CAL FIRE and the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department responded to the Highland Avenue trailhead shortly before 9 a.m., said Battalion Chief Sammy Fox of San Luis Obispo City Fire.

The climber suffered major injuries after falling approximately 30 feet, Fox said.

“SLO City Fire paramedics made access to the patient, along with a CAL FIRE unit,” he said. “At that time, they found the patient to be in acute status, meeting criteria for a Level I trauma.”

A CHP H-70 helicopter crew helped firefighters move the patient, who was flown to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment, a San Luis Obispo City Fire tweet said.
