Tampa firefighters worked high above downtown Monday morning to rescue an injured construction worker.

Firefighters from Station 1 were called to a 19-story building under construction on Harrison Street and North Nebraska Avenue about 8:10 a.m., fire officials said.

The crews from Engine 1, Rescue 1, Heavy Rescue 1 and District 3 were told that a worker was injured on the roof of the structure.

The firefighters made their way to the roof where they were able to stabilize the patient before packaging them in a stokes basket.

Using a crane with their rope equipment, firefighters completed a high-angle rescue and lowered the worker to the ground, where Rescue transported them to a trauma center for treatment.

"Kudos to the crews of Engine 1, Heavy Rescue 1, Rescue 1 and District 3 for rising to the challenge and demonstrating expert skill and calm under pressure during this high-adrenaline rescue," the department shared.
