Photos provided to Firehouse by Jeff Reichmann with the Twin Falls, ID, Fire Department's technical rescue team show a daring canyon rescue earlier this month.

On Sept. 11, Twin Falls rescue crews joined Magic Valley paramedics and the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s search and rescue team in responding to a report of a victim who had fallen in the Snake River Canyon underneath the Perrine Memorial Bridge.

Utilizing a high-angle rope system, rescuers descended from the bridge over 400 feet into the canyon to reach the victim, who was initially diagnosed with a compound fracture of the spine.

The victim was packaged and then lowered to a waiting air unit staged next to the Snake River. The total descent from the bridge was nearly 490 feet, with the second stage of the rescue utilizing a low-angle rope system.
