A West Metro Fire Rescue firefighter who was seriously injured in a long fall during training has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery.

Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Leonard sustained multiple serious injuries during a rope rescue training exercise on July 29 near Morrison. Fire officials said he fell nearly 50 feet in rocky terrain.

After several weeks in the hospital, he was taken to a transitional care facility.

Leonard and his wife, Monica, were escorted to a Denver-area neurological rehabilitation facility by West Metro Medic 16 and Truck 14.

“At the neurological rehabilitation facility, Jarrod will continue receiving specialized care and therapy as he works toward the next milestones in his recovery,” West Metro Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.

West Metro Fire Rescue said Leonard will continue to undergo extensive treatment.

“Jarrod still has a long road ahead, but we’re glad to share that he has reached this next step,” the department said.
