Colorado firefighters rescued a dog that slipped from a cliff and fell 60 feet Thursday morning.

The 30-pound sheepdog, Oreo, had been running with her owner near Helen Hunt Falls in Colorado Springs when the owner removed the dog's leash while he rested, KOAA-TV reports. That's when Oreo took off and eventually fell from a cliff above the falls.

Colorado Springs firefighters responded, and when they arrived, crews saw that the dog had landed on a 2-foot-wide ledge, about 100 feet from the ground. Firefighters then rappelled down to Oreo, attached a harness and pulled her back up to safety.

"This is a pretty rare thing," one of the firefighters involved in the rescue told KOAA. "Dogs are usually more careful than humans."
