Denver FFs Save Worker in Sewer Collapse 20 Feet Under Street

Denver firefighters needed just over two hours to perform the complex rescue of a construction worker who became trapped in a sewer by a collapsed wall of dirt.

Denver firefighters needed just more than two hours to perform a complicated rescue of a construction worker who became trapped after a sewer collapsed Wednesday.

The incident happened at a work site at 33rd and Ivy streets when a wall of dirt collapsed on the worker about 20 feet below street level, according to the Denver Fire Department. Members of the of department's Special Operations Team then were deployed to execute the complex rescue.

It took firefighters two hours and 10 minutes to finally pull out the worker from the sewer and to safety. The man was conscious during the rescue, according to KDVR-TV, and video from the KCNC-TV showed firefighters wheeling him on a stretcher from the sewer to an ambulance.
