SAN DIEGO, CA—Two women requested to be taken to a hospital Wednesday night after they were stuck in a downtown San Diego elevator for about three hours, authorities said.
The ordeal began around 7:45 p.m. at the Symphony Towers on B Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues, in the same building as the Copley Symphony Hall.
The two women were trapped in an elevator until around 10:45 p.m., according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department official. About an hour into the incident, fire crews requested the Department’s specialized urban search and rescue team to assist.
Elevator company employees also responded to the scene to help free the trapped women.
A battalion chief at the scene said both women requested to be taken to a hospital. He did not know the extent of their injuries.
The women did not appear to be significantly injured as they leaned against a wall while a firefighter-paramedic evaluated them at the scene around 11 p.m. About five minutes later, an ambulance arrived.
