Officials said 14 people were killed when a series of tornadoes swept Alabama Sunday.
A path of destruction several miles long was visible in Lee County where Sheriff Jay Jones called the damage “catastrophic."
“I can say that at this time we have 14 confirmed fatalities," Jones said, according to Alabama.com. "And again, the search continues. We still have some people that are reported missing.”
“We’ve still got people being pulled out of rubble,” Lee County Coroner Bill Harris told the newspaper. “We’re going to be here all night," he said, adding that victims ranged in age from children to the elderly.
Weather officials said six counties in Georgia sustained damage during the tornado outbreak.
The Northside Fire Station was destroyed by a suspected tornado that touched down in Eufaula, near the Georgia border.
