One person was found dead after a small plane crashed into a house in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
The single-engine plane hit the unoccupied home on 76th Street in Marathon about 5:10 p.m. Thursday.
A fire caused by the crash was put out by firefighters.
According to the sheriff’s office, a parachute was found near the house where the crash happened.
No one on the ground was hurt and as of 7 p.m. Thursday no other victims were found although the number of occupants on the plane will eventually be determined by the primary investigative agencies — the National Transportation Safety Board and the Florida Highway Patrol.
No information about the type of aircraft involved in the crash, where it took off from and where it was heading was immediately available.
The identity of the person found dead will be released after family members are notified, officials said.
