FDNY Responds as Brooklyn Building Collapses

July 2, 2020
One person was injured and FDNY crews were on scene searching for any potential victims after a vacant three-story building collapsed in Brooklyn on Wednesday.

FDNY crews responded late Wednesday afternoon when a three-story building in an upscale Brooklyn neighborhood completely collapsed, leaving a massive pile of rubble in its wake and luckily resulting in only one injured person.

The New York Post is reporting that the building, which for over three decades has housed a gym, was vacant when it collapsed at around 4:30 p.m. in the tony Carroll Gardens section of the famed borough.

A man was on the second floor of the building when it collapsed but somehow managed to escape with only minor injuries. Sources told the Post he was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

The FDNY posted several photos on its Twitter and Facebook accounts showing the incredible damage following the incident.

The NYPD brought in K9 units to search the rubble along with FDNY rescue crews, who planned to remain on scene overnight to search for any potential victims, FDNY Fire Operations Chief Thomas Richardson said at a press briefing.
