TN Firefighters Rescue 12 after Boat Dock Roof Collapse

Feb. 18, 2021
Heavy snow and ice from this week's winter storm caused the roof of a dock at Nashville's Blue Turtle Bay Marina to collapse, trapping people in their boats.

Tennessee firefighters rescued 12 people, including children, after a dock roof collapsed from snow and ice late Wednesday.

Nashville and Hendersonville crews responded to the incident at Blue Turtle Bay Marina in Nashville, The Tennessean reports. The weight of snow and ice brought down a dock's roof, which fell on occupied boats.

Firefighters searched 100-yard dock, as well as two other docks that appeared to be unstable, to search for trapped individuals. Crews were able to account for everyone, and no one was hurt, Nashville Fire Department spokeswoman Kendra Loney said during a news conference, according to The Tennessean.

Marina tenants are told not to stay in their boat during winter weather. Tennessee and the Nashville area—like much of the country—was hit with severe weather from Winter Storm Uri this week.
