Mar. 18—BROCKTON, MA — A 14-year-old crashed his father's truck into the family's house, causing significant damage and temporarily displacing the building's residents, officials said.
Police and firefighters responded to 9-11 Wilkins Place about 8:54 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle into a house.
Firefighters assigned to Engine 2 arrived on scene first and reported a vehicle struck a porch that had collapsed. Firefighters evacuated the building due to possible structural damage.
Police say the driver was a teenager who was attempting to park his father's truck.
"He claims he put the Ford F-150 in reverse and tried to apply the brakes, but the vehicle slammed into 9-11 Wilkins Place and knocked both porches down," Brockton police spokesperson Darren Duarte said.
Although some residents were inside the home at the time, no one was injured as a result of the crash.
But the residents of the two-family house were temporarily displaced Wednesday night due to the damage the crash caused.
Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Galligan said the damage blocked the back door of the house, leaving only one main exit in the event of a fire, so the residents couldn't remain in the home until the exit was usable again.
One of the porches that was damaged was a ramp used by the first-floor family, whose child is in a wheelchair, officials said.
The 14-year-old, who wasn't identified because he's a juvenile, will be summoned to Brockton District Court to be arraigned at a later date on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license.
