Collision Sends Transit Bus into Springfield, MA, Building

The driver of the Pioneer Valley Transportation Authority bus was taken to the hospital after the bus crashed into a downtown Springfield building.

A Pioneer Valley Transportation Authority bus crashed into a building in downtown Springfield on Saturday morning, sending three people including the bus driver to the hospital.

Springfield Fire and Emergency Services announced that the crash took place shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and also involved an SUV.

“The bus breached the front of 931 Main St.,” a Facebook post from Springfield Fire stated.

video shared on Facebook of the aftermath of the incident showed the bus smashed into the wall of Milano Importing, a business that closed permanently in February. Meanwhile, smashed glass, downed lampposts, and other debris littered Main Street.

A photo posted by Springfield Fire showed the extent of the damage to the front end of the bus, with broken windows and twisted metal. 

The three people taken to the hospital included the bus driver, and two passengers in the SUV. None of the people was identified.

Main Street was temporarily closed but has reopened, and the bus has been removed, Springfield Fire wrote.
